Barbara Wasson

Professor and Co-Director, AI LEARN, University of Bergen

Professor of AI, Co-Director for AI LEARN: AI Centre for the Empowerment of Human Learning (one of six AI research centres in Norway) & Director of SLATE: Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology at the University of Bergen, Norway. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence and Education (AIED), Learning Analytics, Data Literacy, Critical Studies of AI, Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) and socio-cultural perspectives on learning. 

She was a member of the Ministry of Education and Research's expert task force on learning analytics that delivered NOU 2023:19 (a white paper), and in March 2025 Wasson was appointed to the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research expert group on AI in higher education, which will deliver an NOU by October 2026. She is currently a member of the Council of Europe expert group on AI and Education and the expert group on Policy in Higher Education.
